Your iPad as a screen

With Display, your iPad becomes another screen for your Mac, like a second monitor, over a cable. It’s sharp (every pixel, not a video), smooth at 120 Hz, and only a few milliseconds behind.

  1. Connect the iPad to the Mac with a USB-C or Thunderbolt cable.
  2. Make sure Qispi Host is running on the Mac (the llama in the menu bar).
  3. Open Qispi on the iPad and choose Display. The Mac’s new screen appears on the iPad by itself.

Arrange it in System Settings › Displays on the Mac like any other screen. macOS remembers where you put it, for each iPad.

  • Turn the iPad, and the screen turns with it.
  • Unplug it, and the screen goes away after a few seconds, like unplugging a monitor: your windows move back to the Mac’s screen. Plug it in again and it comes back.
  • Qispi Host’s menu shows how it’s going: the cable, the resolution, frames per second, and how far behind the picture is.

A Mac can be a screen for another Mac too (an old iMac, for example), over a Thunderbolt cable or a direct Ethernet cable. Open Qispi on that Mac and choose Display.

Display only works over a cable: it doesn’t accept devices on your home network or over the internet. For that, use Remote.
